Research and feedback from ex-students and others shows that on leaving National Star College there is a serious lack of appropriate transition, accommodation and work experience/occupation opportunities available. This means that individuals are often unable to utilise the skills that they have gained during their time at the College.
As a result of this, the decision has been taken to utilise the charitable status of the organisation to set up new charitable services that focus on these areas.
Students come to National Star College from all over the UK and often return to their home areas when they complete their study. National Star will look at how best to provide these new transition, accommodation and occupation services wherever they may be needed, across the whole country. The services will not always be limited to ex-students but also available to others who have a disability.
This approach will make the best use of the skills and experience that we already have within National Star College and meet a significant need which is not currently being met.
The charity currently overseeing the whole operation including National Star College is being renamed as the National Star Foundation, whilst the College itself is keeping the name National Star College. The new services will be developed under the banner of the National Star Foundation whilst the College will continue to develop its outstanding work, with its core activities still focussing on working with young people with severe disabilities.
Both entities now have new brand identities, that help to distinguish between the Foundation and the College, but the new brands also clearly show that the two bodies are closely linked.
Our strategy for the future of National Star College and National Star Foundation will enable us to expand and grow and become a disability organisation that provides a wide range of services for people both locally and nationally. However, it will not happen overnight, which is why this strategy will be built up over the next 5-10 years.
We will dedicate specific pages of this site to keep everyone informed of our progress, whilst we build and launch the new National Star Foundation website.
